what is ecosystemic design?

Ecosystemic Design is a design approach that seeks to regenerate natural ecosystems through the regeneration of the worldview of the subjects involved in designing. It uses decolonial (or countercolonial) thinking, systemic thinking and indigenous thinking as tools for this subjective regeneration.

It is the result of my doctoral research, which was supervised by Dr. Priscila Arantes and received a grant from the Prosup-CAPES Program; and is being released as a book by Editora Bambual with the title Ecosystemic Design: an eco-decolonial path to regeneration.

The approach can be used in different ways by everyone, designers or not, who want to rethink their ways of being in the world, or want to exercise new and better futures.

how to put it into practice?

01

Ecosystem future scenario

It serves as a tool for building scenarios, to think about futures and alternatives from a beyond-human perspective. How to direct a project, a plan, an organization, towards actual regeneration? It can be to start projects or to provoke new visions.

02

Diversity

It can be used in the form of a game that provokes a look at diversity — in social and environmental aspects — in projects or strategies. It can be used alone or as part of more extensive dynamics.

03

Project method

The ecosystem method is a design path that can adapt to different formats and objectives, all with the aim of encouraging designers to think and carry out projects for the regeneration of local ecosystems.
